This volunteer opportunity made possible by the Special Olympics of Northern California offers many volunteer positions for young athletes, including assistant coaching, office volunteer, etc. This is beneficial for athletes as it allows for teamwork building, collaboration and community, all in an area they’re interested in. It’s also a great opportunity to gain experience in coaching as a possible career choice.

Angel City Sports looks for a team of volunteers that aspire to make their community a better place through sports. It’s a great opportunity to make a difference and interact with other athletes, creating strong friendships and connections. There are four different areas of volunteering, including program volunteer, event volunteer, outreach ambassador, and leadership council. All in all, young athletes can benefit and grow in their athletic careers.

San Francisco Recreation and Parks offers volunteer positions for their recreation programs. These include special events, recreation centers, and even at the pool. It’s another great way for young athletes to gain community service hours and experience in volunteering. By doing so, they can make their community a better place.

The Volo Kids Foundation relies on its hardworking volunteers to keep the program running. They also offer a variety of volunteer positions, such as photography, social media, events, coaching and mentorship, and much more. They offer their program in many different cities and help other young athletes grow in their athletic skills. Young athlete volunteers can learn how to work together in a team and how to improve their own skills through experience.
Summary:
KEEN SF, a YMCA program based in the Embarcadero at SF, is actively looking for volunteers to help out young athletes with disabilities. In this program, they focus on 1:1 support in a safe and friendly environment through sport sessions such as basketball and soccer. The program is completely volunteer ran and is an amazing opportunity to bond with other athletes and learn more about athletics with a group of people that share the same passions.

The YMCA’s goal is to enrich the community and volunteers are critical to this. They offer a variety of programs to help out, an example being coaching youth sports. They have over 233,000 volunteers from all different backgrounds. Young athletes have the opportunity to learn more about their community and bond with other athletes.

The UCSF Race Medical Team is a team of volunteers that aim to provide race medical care to sporting events. They participate in marathons such as the Berkely Half, SF Marathon, Escape from Alcatraz, and more. They take team building and community as a priority which allows young athletes to build connections with others also interested in athleticism, especially in running and medical training.

The SF Youth Baseball League is always looking for new volunteers to help run their program. This is a great volunteer opportunity for young female athletes interested in baseball. Volunteers mostly help run events such as sporting games or tournaments. This is another great way to gain experience with coaching and learning how sporting games work behind the scenes.

Heart in Motion is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping out the community through volunteering at marathons. The organization is run by youth volunteers. They even offer an internship program to gain leadership skills. As part of the leadership department at HIM, I was able to gain and grow in my leadership and teamwork skills. It’s another amazing way for young athletes to be able to make new connections and a difference in their community.
